Melton Cook Corporation
DeAnn Melton grew up in Lubbock,Texas. She has lived in Tucson,Arizona since 1978. DeAnn graduatedfrom the Universityof Arizona with a M.F.A.degree and is a working artist. She started a series of paintings called Masters & Lovers in 1992 which are life size portraits of artists,curators, and collectors painted from life sittings. Masters & Lovers have been shown at the Roswell ArtCenter in Roswell,New Mexico and at the Tucson Museumof Art. DeAnn also paints large still life paintings which are lush and full ofenergy.
The Melton/Cook studio is in northwest Tucson. Also the old Cook Hardware store which is in an 1880's building in Kansashas been renovated to use as a studio.
EllenA. Cook works in the Melton/Cook studio and is the daughter of James PringleCook and DeAnn Melton. She is both a fine sculptor and painter who has shownboth her sculpture and paintings. Ellen painted a large mural for Carlota's Authentic Mexican Cuisine in Catalina, Arizona and a mural for a private barn.
James Pringle Cook is a native Kansan who now lives in Tucson, Arizona with his wife and fellow artist DeAnn Melton. Cook's paintings are in the besttradition of American landscape painting. They are big and gutsy full of virtuosity with lavish, vigorous and confident brush strokes. In this exhibit are paintings that bring us closer to the vast splendor of the Flint Hills where he spent his formative years and continues to maintain ties to the land and itspeople. His paintings hang in museums throughout the world including the DenverArt Museum, Phoenix Art Museum, South Dakota Museum of Fine Arts Tucson Museumof Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art in Osaka Japan. His work is includedin dozens of public art collections from New York to London to Kyoto, Japan.
